AVANTE TEXTIL CHOOSES WATERNEXT: MORE CAPACITY, LESS SPACE, AND A PLANT DESIGNED TO COMPLY WITH THE NEW NOM-001

THE NEED
Avante Textilneeded to increase the treatment capacity of its wastewater treatment plant by30%, reaching a flow rate of1.700 m³/day, without having sufficient space for a conventional expansion.
The challenge was therefore to increase the flow rate, maintain the stability of the biological process, and ensure a finalCOD value of ≤ 150 mg/L, while limiting new civil works, implementation time, and capital expenditure.
Avante Textil needed a compact technology that could be integrated into the existing plant and increase treatment capacity without radically changing the current layout.

THE SOLUTION
WaterNext Group designed a solution based onMBBR – Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor– technology, installed as abiological pre-oxidation stageupstream of the existing oxidation tank.
The MBBR system uses mobile carriers on which a high-concentration bacterial biofilm develops, increasing the available active biomass and improving the removal of organic matter.
For the Avante Textil project, WaterNext integrated unit into the existing treatment line, which includes screening, lifting, equalization, oxidation, sedimentation, sludge recirculation and extraction, with pH and dissolved oxygen control.
This configuration increased the plant’s biological treatment capacity, reduced the load on the existing oxidation section, and maximized the use of the structures already in place.

THE GOAL
The project increased the plant’s treatment capacity to1.700 m³/day, achieving a30%increase in flow rate within the smallest possible footprint.
The expected final quality of the treated water isCOD ≤ 150 mg/L,with a process designed to meet the requirements ofNOM-001, Mexico’s new and more stringent wastewater discharge regulation.
WaterNext’s MBBR solution enabled Avante Textil to increase treatment capacity, minimize civil works, and improve the stability of the biological process, demonstrating the effectiveness of MBBR technology in industrial revamping projects.
The challenge: increasing flow capacity without increasing the footprint

The main challenge was to achieve this increase within the smallest possible footprint, avoiding a conventional expansion involving new tanks and extensive civil works. At the same time, it was essential to maintain the stability of the biological process and ensure a final treated-water quality of COD ≤ 150 mg/L, in line with the textile industry’s increasingly stringent environmental requirements.

A compact and fully integrated revamp
For the Avante Textil project, WaterNext integrated a unit into the existing treatment line, making full use of the plant’s existing sections: screening, lifting, equalization, oxidation, sedimentation, sludge recirculation, and sludge extraction.
This configuration reduces the organic load before the main biological treatment stage, improving process stability and increasing the plant’s overall treatment capacity.
Towards compliance with the new NOM-001
The project was also developed with the requirements ofNOM-001in mind, Mexico’s new and more stringent regulation on wastewater discharges. For this reason, the WaterNext solution addresses not only the need for greater treatment capacity, but also the need to ensure a more stable, controlled process capable of meeting stricter environmental standards.
The result
Thanks toWaterNext’s MBBRtechnology, Avante Textil increased the plant’s treatment capacity to1.700 m³/day, achieving a30%increase within the smallest possible footprint.
